But I thought the polls said
support for more gun control laws was rising.
Sebastian at Snowflakes in Hell posted about the Mayors Against Illegal Guns poll so I thought I would take a look.
One of the first questions that caught my eye was this:
In general, do you feel that the laws covering the sale of guns should be made more strict, less strict, or kept as they are now?
KEPT AS THEY ARE NOW………. NRA 48% NON–NRA 53%
LESS STRICT…………………………NRA 35% NON–NRA 18%
MORE STRICT………………………..NRA 16% NON-NRA 26% 1%
DON’T HAVE AN OPINION……….NRA 1% NON-NRA 2%
71% of NON-NRA people polled do not think we need stricter laws covering the sale of firearms.
The next question that surprised me was this one:
“Law-abiding Americans should have the freedom to choose how to protect themselves, based on their personal situation. No local, state or federal government should dictate this decision.”
AGREE (NET) – NRA 92% NON–NRA 83%
STRONGLY AGREE - NRA 79% NON-NRA 64%
SOMEWHAT AGREE - NRA 13% NON-NRA 19%
NEUTRAL/NO OPINION - NRA 5% NON-NRA 9%
SOMEWHAT DISAGREE- NRA 2% NON-NRA 7%
STRONGLY DISAGREE - NRA 2% NON-NRA 2%
DISAGREE (NET)- NRA 3% NON-NRA 9%
Again, 83% of those poll and who are not NRA members think it is an individual right to decide how to protect ourselves. This from a poll conducted by an ant-firearm group.
This is good news folks.
The next two questions show we still need to keep working on getting information out.
25. How familiar would you say you are with the Supreme Court case Heller v. D.C.?
NOT FAMILIAR AT ALL - NRA 3% NON-NRA 70%
ONLY A LITTLE FAMILAR - NRA 19% NON-NRA 17%
SOMEWHAT FAMILIAR - NRA 34% NON-NRA 10%
VERY FAMILIAR - NRA 17% NON-NRA 3%
26. In the Heller v. D.C. case, the Supreme Court ruled that there is a constitutional right to keep a loaded handgun at home for self-defense. Do you ____ with this ruling?
AGREE (NET) - NRA 95% NON-NRA 92%
STRONGLY AGREE - NRA 82% NON-NRA76%
SOMEWHAT AGREE - NRA 13% NON-NRA 17%
NO OPINION - NRA 4% NON-NRA 4%
SOMEWHAT DISAGREE – NRA 1% NON-NRA 2%
STRONGLY DISAGREE - NRA 1% NON-NRA 2%
DISAGREE (NET) - NRA 2% NON-NRA 4%
70% of the NON-NRA people polled were not familiar with one of the most importance 2nd Amendment Supreme Court Decisions….we need to get that information out there and let them know.
It seems to me, based on question #26 and others, once people have the information they tend to support the Right to Keep and Bear Arms. What is sad, only 17% of the NRA members polled are very familiar with the Heller Decision.
This is good news from an unlikely source. I think it shows why we will win. We just have to tell the truth, we just have to point out the facts, we just have to show the unvarnished statistics and numbers.
The pro-ignorance, anti-freedom groups and individuals have to lie, distort and twist things in order to get support for their agenda. Look at how much trouble they have to go through to simulate grass roots support. The numbers in that poll show why….so few people support their agenda.
Keep up the good work folks.

How come they never poll us GOA/JPFO folks vs the NRA folks?
Spose they already know the answers, I guess.

Tore up my NRA Life Membership but they still mail me American Rifleman and ask for money. I don’t pay people to do jobs if they don’t know how to do the job right.
Some day they’ll understand, or probably not, as I’ve been spouting such things for 25 years now…Didn’t tear up the card until they tried to torpedo what eventually became the “Heller” case when it was still called “Parker” because they were afraid the case would lose because they are PUSSIES that care too much about being invited to the right Beltway vomit inducing cocktail parties with open bars and free gourmet food and plast-icky-icky-icky politicians and lobbyists…or something.
Thomas kicks the NRA in the balls and asks them how they ever expect to WIN ANYTHING if they WON’T EFFIN FIGHT. They haven’t done anything useful outside of safety training and organizing competitions in EONS and the American Rifleman is really just a book of advertising and sycophantic gun reviews, anymore.
