Dallas Area Blogshoot – (D.A.B. II) plan

Okay folks, after trying to sort out the very accommodating responses (“I can shoot most any weekend, let’s just shoot”), here is the proposal

Date – Saturday Sept 15th for the Dinner and Sunday Sept 16 for the shoot.
My thought on this is to give people time to drive in or over to the dinner on Saturday night without having to hurry after work. And there are a couple of people who can not make a Saturday shoot for various reasons.

Location – Restaurant to determined and The Redneck Engineer’s range.

There are many choices for restaurants in the Dallas Fort Worth area. Currently there is a TexMex place not far from Bunker BS that I would suggest — Campo Verde. Good food, decent prices, big enough that we can take over a section and not cause too much hardship.

The Redneck Engineer‘s (TRE) range has the slight edge due to fewer restrictions on the type of toys that can be used.

While there are tables available at the firing stations, given the number of arms at D.A.B. I; it will probably be a good idea to bring a couple of extra tables to stage things.

Meet up – At the same gas station we did before; Belt Line and I-45 – maybe 9 a.m.?

The range needs to be unlocked by the range member so everyone meeting up and then caravan to the super secret shooting location makes sense. If any body can’t make it at the planned meeting time, let myself or The Redneck Engineer know so we can exchange phone numbers. TRE is willing to open the gate to late arrivals.

Standard range rules apply: no alcohol before shooting or on range property, any trash needs to be cleaned up, rifles can be shot in the pistol bays just not at the steel targets, etc.

 Sacrifice to the Range?

I forgot an integral part of any blog shoot

Do we have a volunteer to bring the victim?

What do you folks say? Can we start a list of possible attendees now with the full understanding that life is what happens while we are making plans?

I’m in and The Redneck Engineer of course (and possibly wife).

Anyone else?

BAR board members, kx and Southern Belle — possibly youngest daughter also.

DanielS is in.

Nick the Blogless (when are you going to change that by the way?)

Paul from Texas

Scribbler and possibly others

    The BAR board members, kx and Southern Belle, are in!
    We may have the youngest daughter in tow as well.
    Looking forward to it.

    Yes we will be in. We will have the youngest daughter and her new squeeze in tow actually. We are in for the dinner as well! This will be fun!!

    I’m in – schedule permitting of course.

  4. Posted by Nick the Blogless on 12.07.12 at 11:54

    I’ll be there.

    Hey Nick! It’ll be good to see you again!

    I’ve been trading emails with Aretae out of San Antonio. He’s going to try to make it as well. He responded with “we”. I don’t know if that was a royal “we” or he’s bringing the Aretae clan with him though.

    I meant to mention that my wife might be in on it, and maybe some other friends.

    I think Scribbler mentioned that he is up for it, and he might be getting some family to fly in for the whole shindig.

    If anybody is going to run late, please email me at
    theredneckengineerATgmail.com so I can get you my personal cell number to call the day of the range trip. This is crucial to you getting inside the facility.

    Sounds like it will be a blast! Hope you all have fun.

    I think The Queen and I plus kids make dinner Saturday night. Campo Verde is a great choice. I very much want to make the shoot on Sunday and will do everything I can to make it happen. It will likely come down to a babysitting issue and permission from The Queen in the event she does not attend as well.

    I most certainly am in. Working on getting my dad down as well, so he’s a potential. I’ll update when we have a definite answer.

    Lookin Pretty good. I don’t have a lot of firepower myself, but I’ll show up. And at least for a little bit, I’ll show off my beautiful wife and children. It’s unknown how many of them will join us for the shoot, though likely the whole clan (wife + kids : 16,8,6) will be there for dinner.

    @Kx59 & Southern Belle

    Great news. Can’t wait to see you folks again. Hopefully my wife will come out and enjoy everyone’s company….still working on that.

    Been a while, hope your schedule works out but rest assured this wont’ be the last D.A.B.

    @Nick the Blogless
    Glad to have you coming again. Going to start a tradition of you attending these things, eh?

    Glad to hear your wife may attend also. Would like to have more spouses and family attending. I think the next one we’ll try at my range and do more of a cookout with a little shooting
    And the more the merrier with anyone else. Gonna be fun.

    @J Dan,

    If it is anything like the first D.A.B. it is going to be a blast figuratively and literally. Of course with James The Redneck Engineer cooking up surprises, HOW big of a blast will be the question.

    Read your blog and couldn’t figure out if you are in Texas or Florida. Glad to have you attend.

    @Shepherd K,

    I’m sure my wife will make the supper at least and that you agree with Campo Verde. I can’t wait to meet the wife and kids. I don’t know if my son, his wife and kids will be back by that time but we may end up outnumbered by the kids.

    @ZootSuidDave – I mean Scribbler,

    That will be cool to have your dad attend.

    Doesn’t matter how much or how little firepower you bring because there will be plenty there. 🙂
    I didn’t meet a single person last time who didn’t offer up something from their armory for me to try. Didn’t have enough time to shoot all the guns (I really really want to try that Thompson Sub Machine gun of U.S. Citizen for example)

    I have a .22 rifle – a Marlin 60 – that the younger kids would have no problem with recoil. Not sure about the size but I hope everyone comes and has a good time.

    Getting pumped about this. I count around 14 confirmed for the shoot and lots more for the dinner.

  13. Posted by James on 12.07.12 at 11:54

    Aretae and others who haven’t access to many firearms,

    Worry not. We’ve got this!
    There were easily 6 or 7 DOZEN firearms at DAB 1.0, and I’m not counting the stuff Rick (Traction Control) brought for sale.
    (You haven’t lived until you’ve seen a econony car/wagon almost bottomed out on the ground because it’s carrying enough firepower to conquer China)
    I will personally be bringing a couple dozen or more rifles and close to a dozen handguns of varying caliber, just by myself. I will be bringing a plethora of ammo as well, and I expect it to be used.

    If anyone is interested in going to the shoot, but isn’t going because they can’t afford ammo, they don’t have “enough” guns, or they aren’t “experienced” shooters, don’t let that turn you away.

    Trying to arrange coverage at work now.

  15. Posted by RabidAlien on 12.07.12 at 11:54

    Scribble me and Mrs.Alien down in very firm #2 pencil. There may be some family stuff that day (nephew’s birthday), there may not be…we never know until the last minute. Also, it’ll be after noon before we would be able to break free from church on Sunday, kinda have to be there to run the computer. Got a couple of rifles (Mosin 91/30, Enfield), a pair of Springfield XD’s and a Walther P22 we can hoof along for the cause.

  16. Posted by Bob S. on 12.07.12 at 11:54

    Please drop a note to The Redneck Engineer — he’ll get you contact information. The range is one of the ‘lock the gate after you come in types” so you’ll have to call him when you get there on Sunday.

    Glad to have another Mosin in the mix 🙂 and i hope i can take a crack at the Enfield. Going to have to start a “guns i’ve shot list’

  17. Posted by James on 12.07.12 at 11:54

    Bob, I’ll pick up a stuffed toy for sacrificial duty if no one else does.

    Will this work?

  18. Posted by Cormac on 12.07.12 at 11:54

    I’m not sure yet whether I’ll be able to go, but if I do, The 91/30 is coming with me!
    James, that link gave me a great idea, but I’m not sure if the price is for one, or a box:
    I’ll take me about 10 minutes to rig up a 2×4 with holes to mount the little bastards.
    If I don’t go, I may build it anyway and just give it to you guys in exchange for some photos/video…little ‘splody Leninheads.

  19. Posted by Cormac on 12.07.12 at 11:54

    Aaaaaand they appear to be out of stock (maybe out of production?).
    Well that just blows.

  20. Posted by Pat St. Jean on 12.07.12 at 11:54

    Definitely count Heather and I in!

  21. Posted by Pat on 12.07.12 at 11:54

    Heather and I can bring a donkey and an elephant (a-la the choose your destructor shirt) if you’d like.

  22. Posted by Bob S. on 12.07.12 at 11:54

    I’m not sure that would meet the requirements of the tradition. I’ll have to ask for a ruling in the Gun Blog Conspiracy.

    Mean while I’ll look around for something suitable; there has to be a #%@#!%@ Barney the Dinosaur stuffed toy around some place.

  23. Posted by James on 12.07.12 at 11:54

    I’m totally okay with hitting Barney with a round of .50 BMG

    Idea for Pat, how about sewing together the donkey and the elephant, then making them all ‘splodey?

  24. Posted by Jennifer on 12.07.12 at 11:54

    Count us as a maybe

  25. Posted by Bob S. on 12.07.12 at 11:54

    That would be great if you folks could make it down !!

  26. Posted by Henry T. on 12.07.12 at 11:54

    I am just a reader, but like to join in the shoot meet. Is that OK with your folks?

  27. Posted by Bob S. on 12.07.12 at 11:54

    Absolutely it is okay with us. Head over to The RedNeck Engineer’s place for details or stay tuned here. The entire idea is connect with other shooters in the area not just bloggers. Thanks for reading.

    I’ll be posting this week with a reminder and range rules.
