General David Petraeus – an affair that might have compromised national security.
The scandal surrounding the decorated four-star Army general who once ran the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan involves questions of national security, politics and even the September 11 attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, that left four Americans dead.
Petraeus, 60, resigned Friday after acknowledging he had an affair with a woman later identified as his biographer, Paula Broadwell, 40, a fellow West Point graduate who spent months studying the general’s leadership of U.S. forces in Afghanistan.
General John Allen being investigated as part of the cover up
Gen. John Allen, is under investigation for alleged “inappropriate communications” with a woman who is said to have received threatening emails from Paula Broadwell, the woman with whom Petraeus had an extramarital affair.
During a prior exchange, when the agent was trying to establish a friendly relationship with the married mother-of-three, he sent her shirtless photos of himself adding to questions over his true intention behind going above-and-beyond his work duties to help her with the threats.
General Ham out as commander of Africom
The latest rumor making the rounds is that Barack Obama replaced General Carter Ham at AFRICOM after the general made a move to help the US security officials at the Benghazi consulate and annex. Ham was replaced by Gen. David Rodriquez on October 18.
Tiger Droppings reported:
The information I heard today was that General [Carter] Ham as head of Africom received the same e-mails the White House received requesting help/support as the attack was taking place. General Ham immediately had a rapid response unit ready and communicated to the Pentagon that he had a unit ready.
General Ham then received the order to stand down. His response was to screw it, he was going to help anyhow. Within 30 seconds to a minute after making the move to respond, his second in command apprehended General Ham and told him that he was now relieved of his command.
The story continues that now General Rodiguez would take General Ham’s place as the head of Africom.
Yet how many media outlets are asking what is going on with the Obama Administration? Darn few.
And let’s not forget Eric Holder, eh.
Attorney General Eric Holder is under fire as questions emerge over why he did not tell Barack Obama that David Petraeus was having an affair with his biographer.
Holder was told by the FBI that they were investigating the relationship between the director of the CIA and Paula Broadwell in late summer, but appears not to have shared the information with anyone else.
The President did not find out about the scandal until Wednesday – just two days before Petraeus resigned – even though multiple senior politicians had apparently been aware of it for months.
The revelation that the Attorney General knew about Petraeus’ infidelity could increase pressure on Obama to replace him when he puts together his Cabinet for the next four years.
Must have gotten to used to keeping things like Fast and Furious from his boss to tell him little details like the head of the C.I.A. was having an affair.
And this is all before the inauguration; man are the next 4 years going to be fun.
