Tales from the Great Ammo Shortage of ’13

Winchester Gallery and Shooting Range is an established and respected gun store and indoor range in Fort Worth.

Yesterday my niece and her fiance asked me to help them to do a little shopping and comparison; she is going to get her Concealed Handgun License. Trying to find the right pistol, she’s handle a few a the stores, shot (more than) a few at various trips to the range with her dad and I; but wanted to rent the 3 she’s narrowed down her choice to; the Beretta Nano, the Kimber Solo, and the Sig Sauer P938. All in 9mm.

Winchester has a policy of requiring ammunition used at the range be purchased from the range. Typical of most indoor ranges.

That policy has been suspended for the last 3 weeks.

Because they, a firearm store and range, are out of ammunition.

Something they could have posted on their website to reduce the likelihood of someone coming there expecting to actually find ammunition for sale.

Yep, that’s our go-to range (its close to where we live). Great range, great folks, website is….adequate. I don’t think they keep it as up to date as they should.

Shoot me an email (heh…) about CHL classes, MrsAlien and I took our class yesterday, I’ll email you the details, and a promo code he gave us to pass along that gets the CLASS price down to $69 (regular state fees still apply). I get nothing from this, of course, its just an awesome course that I learned TONS from.

    Rabid Alien,

If you are close to Winchester, we really need to talk. I happen to think the Super Secret Shooting Club I belong to is a better place to shoot.

Let me know if you and Serenity want to visit; I’ll be happy to take you two out for a tour.

Rabid, be warned, Bob talks a good game of giving tours…I’m still waiting for mine.

Bob, I tease. I know my availability has been next to non-existent for months. Thanks for the heads up on the rental ammo. Mom and I are taking the class at another range this weekend. I have enough for my .45, but mom will need to rent a 9mm most likely.

    Daddy Hawk,

Ouch…..since you put the knife in my back; could you be a ‘friend’ and pull it out ? 🙂

Just let me know when you have free time, seriously. I need an excuse to get out to the range again.

Hey, at least he didn’t twist it!

I’ll go ahead and post it here, but I’m in no way affiliated with this company (other than having taken their course recently) and get nothing back from them other than the satisfaction of passing along a great company who puts on a very engaging, very informative CHL course: LoneStar Protect You can often find his wife manning a table in the gun section at Cabelas promoting their classes and selling some merchandise. Again, AWESOME course!

Bob, the knife seems to be stuck on something. What exactly is your spine made of? Until the time change next weekend, Sundays are my only real free day.

    RabidAlien and Daddy Hawk:

Seriously…just bug him a bit to take you out there.
You won’t regret it. I really need to join…

Just remember, Bob, only a true friend would use ColdSteel. ColdSteel: for when you care enough to backstab with the very best…

    Daddy Hawk,

Apparently it is made out of some strange form of rubber. I bend over backwards to extend an invitation only to have someone shank me for not pressing him to take up the offer 🙂

Actually this Sunday would work. I don’t show anything on my calendar.

Who needs to bug who? Isn’t there some application you need to be filling out 🙂
That April Orientation class is coming up soon.

    Rabid Alien,

Figured it was a high quality blade, I barely felt it. I’ll let Daddy Hawk slide; probably a combination of lack of sleep and or senility is affecting him….not enough to keep him from using the best but still……

Let me know if you and Serenity would like to tour the place on Sunday. Will have to inventory my ammo stash to see if I can make it a shooting tour.

That Super Secret club Bob belongs to is arguably one of the best clubs in North Texas.
The Winchester Gallery is indoor shooting only and has its limits. I tend to use both, with Winchester being more convenient when shooting pistols, and Bob’s Super Secret Shooting Club is vastly superior when it comes to rifle and shotgun.
Both are great places with friendly, pleasant folks.

It was not a shank. It was a bayonet from a Springfield 1873 Trap Door Rifle. You can tell by the triangular shape of the wound. And it’s not senility. Lack of sleep is definitely involved secondary to an infestation of foster children and wifeitis. At least, that’s what the daily excuse calendar says.

This Sunday is out. Mom and I are taking the CHL class together. I will email you (again) to find a good date when time and ammo supplies merge.

    Daddy Hawk,

Great news on the class. Sure you and your mom will ace it.
Syncing up schedules and health issues (on my side) and lack of sleep on yours is a challenge but one we’ll overcome.
