Tell me again…

that it is the tool and not the culture.

As many as a dozen people may have witnessed the brutal gang rape and beating of a 15-year-old girl after her homecoming dance — and the attack may have been caught on cell phone video, police said.

What tool do we blame for this horrendous crime?

The alcohol?
15 year olds aren’t allowed to drink on their own, anyone other then a parent or legal guardian isn’t allowed to give alcohol to a minor.

How about the music?
Does anyone believe the music drove the thugs in this crime to rape a 15 year old girl?

Do we blame the cell phones?
Isn’t it a little ridiculous to be even discussing what tool to blame it on? Why do we accept that argument with firearms then.

Should we blame the girl, after all if she wasn’t readily available this crime wouldnt’ have happened, right? BUNK.

Two suspects were in custody late Monday, but police said as many as five other men attacked the girl over a two-hour period Friday night outside Richmond High School.

What type of culture do we have where 5 men think that it is acceptable to rape a woman?

“She was raped, beaten, robbed and dehumanized by several suspects who were obviously OK enough with it to behave that way in each other’s presence,” Richmond Police Lt. Mark Gagan said. “What makes it even more disturbing is the presence of others. People came by, saw what was happening and failed to report it.”

And not just to indict the filthy rapists, but everyone who saw it and didn’t do something about it is guilty. They failed to report a crime, they failed to try to stop it.

I can understand — to a limited degree– not trying to physically stop the crime…but it wasn’t until hours later that someone even called the cops.

Those people that walked by should be charged with failure to report a crime in progress.
The culture that grows and thrives in that area is responsible for the crime. The parents who raise their kids to think that violence is acceptable to get their way is responsible. The people that pressure others to “don’t snitch” are responsible.

The culture that deprives people of the right to defend themselves effectively is also responsible. Someone might have been likely to try–maybe not succeed but at least try– to stop it if they were not limited to only physical force. One person usually can’t stand against a group. One person with a firearm can.

Until we change that culture no law in the world is going to stop the violence.

I think this is where having a full-auto weapon would probably have been a good idea, although that’s just wishful thinking on my part.
