Yet another reason to carry –YOBs

What is a YOB?

yob (yb)

n. Chiefly British Slang

A rowdy, aggressive, or violent young man.

[Alteration of boy (spelled backward).]

I’ll leave it to you to check out the “yob” culture in England. Pro-rights folks already know and Pro-ignorance groups won’t believe me. Problem is we are starting to see the same culture expanding here.

Now, the deceased did everything the anti-gun advocates suggest, except completely ignore the situation. These thugs were driving recklessly, endangering the residents….so he simply tried to talk to them.

This isn’t a case of criminal versus criminal crime. Reports indicate the deceased was a good man.

It started shortly before midnight Saturday as Bird returned from a fishing trip at Lavon Lake with his best friend, August Walters, 26. With them were two boys: Bird’s fiancée’s 14-year-old son and the son’s 15-year-old friend.

They pulled in front of the home that Bird shared with his fiancée, Codi Duer. Bird, who worked as a handyman, often took Duer’s three sons fishing for bass, crappie and catfish.

“He didn’t try to take the place of the father they had,” Duer said Monday. “But he tried to be the best role model and father figure that he could.”

As they headed into the home in the 300 block of South Third Street, a pickup sped down the street.

According to the police account, Bird told those inside the truck to slow down because kids lived in the area. Bird and others in the neighborhood had grown tired of hearing screeching and engines along its streets.

And how did the “youths” respond?

The truck stopped, and there was an exchange of words. As it pulled away, Walters told police, it ran over Bird’s foot and he struck the side of it with his arm.

The truck sped off, but not before its driver yelled that he’d be back with his “AK,” police say.

About five minutes later, the truck returned, and five teenage boys jumped out. One was dressed in red and wore a red bandana. The boy punched Bird, who lost his balance and fell to the ground, police say.

16 year old youths know right from wrong. There is no excuse, no plea of poverty, no hardship that can keep them from knowing what they were doing was wrong.

Walters was on the phone with his sister, he said.

“I’m about to get in a fight – I’ll call you back,” he told her, and sprinted toward the fray.

Meanwhile, Duer’s son’s friend yelled at the boys to back off. He knew the boy in red, a 16-year-old, because they used to hang out together. Despite his pleas, the group kept beating Bird.

They weren’t dissuaded by having a witness that could identify them, were they? They didn’t seem to be worried about being caught, did they? They didn’t seem to be worried about going to jail, did they?

The attack had lasted only a couple of minutes. When it was over, Bird lay in the grass just across the street from his home. Walters rushed over to hold him as he coughed up blood.

“He took four or five breaths and that was it,” Walters said.

He was taken to Richardson Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Trying to do the right thing, trying to get “youths” to be conscientious of others and he was fatally beaten for his efforts.

Notice that they didn’t bring an “AK”?

From the pickup, investigators recovered a hammer. Authorities wouldn’t say which teen they think swung it.

They used a tool to kill, they used their fists and feet to kill.

Gun Control advocates would have you believe that a firearm owned and carried by a law abiding citizen would have made this situation worse. I ask how?

Would a firearm carried by Mr. Bird have prevented this? I don’t know.
I do know that he would have had a better chance of surviving. The teens didn’t have a firearm, they didn’t need one. They had simple tools, their youth and numbers on their side.

Would they have been less likely to attack an armed man? Probably common sense to say yes, wouldn’t you agree?

There are two basic types of violence in the world. These thugs were willing to use predatory violence…simply because someone asked them to slow down.

Denying people the right to effectively use protectionary violence does nothing to stop the predatory violence.

If the victim’s sidearm would not have helped him someone Else’s would have. In spite of what the loony Left would have you believe those of us that carry are Law Abiding and will (out of pure right not obligation) come to the aid of anyone facing this situation. Here in Florida those little pukes hold have been on the ground waiting for the Police to come collect them…..Then! it’s the courts turn. We don’t play games in the County I live in. The police here are very much Pro Second Amendment.

    John in Florida,

Thanks for the comments and the book mark. I think it’s very cool your wife gave you the link. Please thank her for me.

I agree that the outcome might, can’t state positively, but might have been different if the victim or others were armed.

Contrary to the claims of the gun banners, I doubt if the YOBs would have been armed. If they had really wanted firearms or had them, wouldn’t they have returned with a firearm.

Glad to hear you live in a 2nd Amendment County.
